Both have benefits, both have bad side-effects. Isn't this a double standard?

First post - A lot of doctors would argue that THC is an excellent drug for inducing appetite, easing glaucoma and is a far less addictive pain killer than morphine.

Second post - alcohol is a lot of fun! It makes us more social. This is beneficial to us because we are naturally shy. It lets you drop your inhibitions for a while just to let loose so it is also a stress reliever.

"Study of prisoners." You've already uncovered a source for error in the experiment 3 words into its description. Most prisoners would be inherently crazy...

I'd agree with the abuse of drugs theory except that it's not true in the case of Mary Jane. It was made illegal by corrupt studies that showed it caused VIOLENT BEHAVOIR among other false accusations. We now know that to be false. To keep people from using excess amounts, wouldn't it be smarter to have it actually sold in controlled amounts with warning labels and suggested serving sizes? Just a thought. Most of the arguments I've found for prohibition of narcotics only tell me that drugs are bad and don't say well if it was legal, THIS horrible thing would happen or THAT horrible thing would happen. "We'd send the wrong message to our kids" is a popular one. But don't we do that when they find out they've been lied to about marijuana?

One is monitored by a doctor the other is not. A Dr. can give you blood tests to make sure you are not getting liver damage etc.

You say recreational which usually means, taken in excess, beyond what is healthy.

There is still a debate about the benefits of E and Marijuana. Too bad, people abused them and gave them a bad rap. Otherwise you would be able to get an Rx.

The National Institute of Mental Health funded a study of prisoners. It was found that most of the drug users actually had neurophysiological disorders, like ADHD, and others, prior to drugs. It was determined that these people were self-medicating when they should have found medical help, but they didn't know that they were different or had a problem. "The drugs made me feel alive." The problem is, many people think that if a little is good, then a lot has got to be better. But that is wrong, too much of a good thing is always bad. If recreational drugs make you feel better, maybe you should consider seeking medical help. You can get on a medication that will make you feel great all the time! And it is legal. Why deprive yourself if you have a shortage of some neurochemical? A Dr. can work to find what works best for your brain.

I agree that Marijuana is a good pain killer and is great for treating people with glaucoma but the only side effect to it is that it is illegal for recreational use which still makes no sense to me, which in my case makes me want to move to Amsterdam. I am Bipolar and on a host of medications and yes there are a lot of side effects to the medications that i take. I don't know if society will ever accept the fact that THC is a natural pain killer while vicodins are synthetic herion but that is legal with a prescription. Does that make any sense to anybody because I still can't figure that out.
