Do you just stay up like me or what do you do? All suggestions welcome. My usual remedy is not available right now.

I have it really bad and have had it to some degree all my life, even as a child,It,s horrible because you WANT to sleep, but your brain just seems to disagree with you,so yes, I usually just stay up and do this(answers)or I read or play Scrabble on line.I'm in Ohio and it's 4:55 a.m. I've tried Ambien and it helps but it's too expensive;I can't afford it.Right now I've got some Restoril ,but it really doesn't work for me,so I'll just wait until I feel punch-drunk and then get a few hours in.I hope you can find a solution, but it helps me to know I'm not alone.

I also have insomnia pretty bad! The Dr gave me drugs and they have stopped working. I have tried taking a nice warm bath about an hour before bed. This works sometimes. Most of the time though I do a crossword puzzle.
Goodnight!

I know what you mean about your usual remedy..that helps me sleep too. I stay up until I'm so weary I will fall into bed (after brushing my teeth of course). Its the mental fatigue that has to set in too but have you tried relaxation exercises? Relax every part of you bit by bit, it can help. Good luck. Horrid being awake at 3am when every other bu**er is snoring their heads off.

I've had this problem for a long time but it's getting better now because I try to exercise a few hours before bedtime and my doctor says not to eat any food at least 4 hours before retiring. Sometimes people have a hard time sleeping because it is so hard to stop thinking. So much is going on in our lives, it is difficult to relax.

I take melatonin, which really helps, but you have to take it right before turning the lights off. When I can't sleep anyway I get up and read or surf the Net for awhile. Sometimes I take a hot shower and try again.
Insomnia's the pits, isn't it?

If you can't sleep, get out of bed read a book or watch tv until you feel sleepy then go back to bed. The idea is to asssociate lying down in bed with sleep. This has helped me.
