It all depends on your body, and if you are breast feeding. My baby was about five months old when I got my period back (I breast fed until she was four months old). Everyone is different, but breast feeding keeps the hormone levels elevated, causing a pause in the menstral cycle. When your hormone levels return to "normal", that is when your period will start up again.
I began my bc pills when it had been six weeks after the birth of my daughter. They do not recommend having sex until at least six weeks after the birth of a child, so any relations before then is rather risky (infection risks, and I guess it really doesn't feel the same yet - things are still going "back" to where they were once).
Talk to your doc about beginning bc and breast feeding. I don't think it is harmful, as my doc stated it was fine. But everyone is different.

My periods started up about 6-8 weeks after I had my children.
After you have a baby, you can still get pregnant if you haven't started your period. Definitely use condoms now. At my 6 week check up, I got my prescription for birth control. You can always ask your doctor about it.
Congrats on your new baby girl!

Good birth control would be Depo Provera. I breastfed my daughter and that was what my ob/gyn suggested. As for your period, usually around six weeks after birth.

usually your normal period starts about 4 weeks after you have the baby. I would talk to your ob/gyn about that when you go for your 6 weeks check up.

Since we had ours 13 months apart, I can vouch that you need birth control ! Condoms.
I think periods usually come back within 3 months.

Sorry, everyone's body is different. No one can tell you for sure. My daughter breastfed for a year, and her period never started. Ask your ob or pediatrician what you can use for BC and still breastfeed.

I am not a mother, but please do not depend on yahoo answers for your birth control advice. Go to your doctor for professional advice.
