When I'm asked a personal question about someone I like to say, "you'd have to ask them about that" which is not divulging secrets, not pulling me into their digging for gossip and not lying either.

You tell them this type of conversation makes you uncomfortable and you explain why it does and you don't answer the question and you would appreciate it if they drop the subject.

depending on who is asking you, friends or a parent or someone in authority........
if a friend or a classmate, tell them "no comment" or "ask me no questions, i"ll tell you no lies.......
if a parent, teacher or a authority figure it is best to tell the truth, "the truth will set you free"
and if you tell one lie ,one have to tell 10 more lies to cover the first lie up....

If you prefer not to answer, simply say that.
