If you ask how many times does 7 go into 10, you are dividing 10 by 7.

into means divide (7 into 10)
by means multiply (7 by 10)

7 into 10 = 10 / 7 = 1.43
Simply put, what is being asked is how many times can the number "7" fit inside the number "10".
Since seven can go into 10 at least once (because 7 < 10) and
because seven can't go into 10 twice (because 2*7=14 > 10),
1.43 is a reasonable answer.

Proof!!! why do you need proof. Admit you're wrong and go back and apologize to the guys in the office. It's evident they know a lot more about basic mathematical functions than you do. And it seems like everybody here agrees with the boys in the office.
