You are not alone out there, my good friend and I see the earth and universe for what it really is, simply a natural phenominon, at least that is our conclusion but I do think it's important to keep an open mind. Most people in this world don't believe you can live a good moral life unless you believe in God, they are just ignorant...I live in the Bible Belt too and to be an atheist is not something I eagerly announce to anyone. It doesn't help that we have a "saved" conservative christian president who pretty much demonizes anyone who doesn't believe in God, well so does the media...

A few, but they generally avoid me.
I find them amusing.
They try to avoid words like "Christmas" and "Easter", even though these are holidays of Babylonian origin and not "Christian" in the least.
They get very confused trying to discuss even the simplest things because their belief framework is so encapsulated, it falls apart at myriad intersections.
If they were just honest they would bump themselves down to "agnostic", but they refuse to do that they are so adamant to "prove" that there is no God.
I have a great time laughing at their contrived logic and phoney facts.
They never open the "black box" between their belief and the facts. They leave it closed and rely on soundbites to "prove" their unsound conclusions.
Maybe it's my jovial attitude toward them that drives them away, they're such serious people. They ought to lighten up.
I mean, what are they afraid of? Hadn't they heard that God loves them and wants them to enjoy the good earth He's created for us?
Oh well, there's no changing them. I have NEVER converted an atheist by winning an argument with them. They run away and don't come back. It's a question of the will, not the intellect.
They're just willfully ignorant of the truth, and that's the way they like it.
They're not happy people. They're angry all the time (well, when they're around me anyway).

I don't know any people who are avowed atheists. I know people who have doubts about the God of the Bible but I don't know anyone who declares flat out that there is no such thing as a Creator God. I was an agnostic for most of my life and I remember telling someone who asked me if since I didn't believe in God I was an atheist. I told them "No, Atheists are stupid. How can you prove that there isn't a god? I don't believe in god because you can't prove that there is a god. I think religious people believe because they want to believe or that's what they were taught when they were younger.
But I don't understand people who have a positive faith in the concept that there is no such thing as a god. I mean, scientists can't explain where the matter that makes up this universe came from because as far as we know everything has to come from something else. So it doesn't make sense for there to be anything here at all. For that reason I am inclined to think that a supernatural god who created all things probably does exist, but I'm not going to believe in something without proof. Just like I'm not going say something doesn't exist without proof that it couldn't exist."
That was almost 5 years ago. People must have started praying for me because God revealed Himself to me in my life and now I serve Him in several ministries.

They don't usually wear T-shirts proclaiming their beliefs/lack of beliefs but I know at least a couple. I think I gravitate more towards agnostics but I have friends that are Catholic, Jewish, Buddhist, Baptist and Pagan. Some I have no clue, and thats cool.
I live really close to a city though. Lots of people in my town.

I know maybe 3 real honest atheists and whole bunch of people who say they are but rely on something other than themselves to cope with life, such as drugs, alcohol or television; which, to me anyway, is just as bad as fundamental religion. The way I understand it, a true atheist can prove without a doubt that there is no god and that the only one to rely on is yourself. So, if this is true, then reliance on things that take you away from yourself means that you are not up to the job.

0 Even if you can see no "legitimate" or "logical" reason for the prohibition of a certain action, if the word of God forbids it, do not do it. Why? (1) "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways your ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isa. 55:8, 9).

Very few it's not like a religion where we would get together and discus what we don't believe. To be an atheist you have to think for your self.
