because they feel like they arent good enough to show their real personality = low self esteem.
they have to do better than they believe they are in order to win the other person's attraction. why do you think certain girls wear too much makeup or dress overly unappropriate. im slim, with a nice figure, but i never grew up dressing like a slut since i knew very well that i didnt have to do extra to be better. same thing with make up and all that crap.
its also just a matter of common sense and wise intelligence for one to lack or not lack self esteem.

People usually aren't trying to be "fake", the usually just want to make a good first impression. That way if they like a person they can hope for a second, or even a third date. Also when a person gets to know them better ,it will be easier to accept their quirks. It all boils down to not wanting to scare the other person off.

Mostly to impress the other person. It is like selling a house. you don't show the leaky pipes, slow draining tub and creaking floor boards. You show the bay windows, the beautiful view from the Kitchen, the double vanity. After spending enough time, the truth will show up, Don't Believe first impressions.

because dating is like a job interview. you want to impress the other person and you also don't want to expose too much about yourself including your flaws. but saying that not everyone is fake when they date some people are just really shy and that needs to be taken into consideration.

Some people do not have confidence in themselves so they try to pass themselves off as someone that they think the other person wants them to be not realizing that who they are is the reason the person was attracted to them in the 1st place

Why? Because they think that its cool to be somebody else. And you know what? I hated that while I was dating, I hate to see people act all fake and ****. Give people what they want. Your true beautitful self that GOD created! Don't lie! Because it will catch up to you, its called Karma!

They want to impress the opposite sex. What they don't understand is that when you hide things from the beginning, it only makes it seem that worse when it finally does come out and trust me, it does EVENTUALLY come out. Be upfront and honest. If they don't like you for you, it's not worth your breath.
