What is St Catharines Ontario like? Crime, Schools, etc. If any of you live there is it a nice place to raise a family and grow old? My family is considering all different Ontario towns to move to and St Catharines is one that came to mind.

It's not a bad place, but there's better places in the same area.

I've lived in the Niagara Region almost my entire life. I was raised in Fort Erie (40km from St. Kitts), currently living in Niagara Falls (15km from St. Kitts). St. Kitts is a mid-sized city (130,000 people), with most services you'll ever need.

Things that bug me about St. Kitts are little things that really only irritate a local. No two streets intersect at 90 degrees, it's very confusing to get around if you don't have the streets memorized, the streets are poorly signed, and traffic flow is slow because of all this.

If you're planning a move to the Niagara area, St. Catharines isn't a bad place. It's central to many services and amenities, the schools are pretty good, and crime is reasonably low, as long as you don't move to downtown.

Some people will tell you about all of the "great tourism" attractions in the area, but I can almost guarantee you that if you live here, you'll rarely visit any of them. I'm not sure why, but in the Niagara area we all seem to avoid our local tourism venues.

I would choose Ottawa. I am from Halifax and now live in Montreal...you couldn't pay me enough to go back, sure it's a pretty area, but Ottawa is is the best choice for you and your family.

My friend moved there. Unfortunately she loves it and is staying there. The crime rate is low and schooling is reportedly good. I wish she'd move back here, though.....
