We generally give the cat antibiotics, even though most cystitis cases aren't caused by bacteria, they seem to help with symptoms. Also, an anti-inflammatory can help with pain (and Metacam doesn't cause cancer...it is actually quite helpful when used as directed in cats). Also, glucosamine products seem to help with pain and inflammation. A restricted diet can be beneficial...dry or canned. Increase water consumption by using a cat water fountain, adding water to the food, usually flavored water, etc. Most of these cases have to run the course, which could take a few weeks. Stress can also bring on an episode, so if anything changed in the cats household routine, trying to eliminate that could help also. If crystals were found in the urine sample, then a special diet must be fed to prevent blockage (a life threatening condition where the cat cannot urinate...usually seen in males).

My cat has cystitis and my vet put her on a perscription diet called cd urinary tract health by hills. It seems to be doing well, she has been on it for two to three years now. It is a bit expensive though but seems to work. I have just started to make my own home made canned cat food without all the additives( that is normally added to regular cat food) to see if that makes a difference. She seems to really like it. I add more liquid so it helps to get liquids into her body.So now i feed her the dry stuff in the morning (for now) that the vet described and the home made stuff at night. I will see how that works out.

I do have to disagree with the poster who recommended Metacam. I am on the Yahoo feline cancer group and there has been much discussion late about the adverse effects of using this drug. I have a cat with bladder cancer and this was going to be prescribed and I refused the medication.

I do feel that wet food is the best for any cat whose bladder is inflamed. The added moisture in the food makes the urine more dilute and it is easier on the bladder when it goes through.

My homeopathic book by Don Hamilton, DVM gives a number of remedies and you must find a good animal homeopath to diagnose and precribed for your cat. You can go to: www.homeovet.net and read about Jeffrey Levy DVM. He is the homeopath that is treating my bladder cancer cat. This is all done by Dr. Levy reviewing all my cat's medical records, the ultrasound, the surgery and biopsy reports, medical history etc.
Initially he will talk to you about an hour over the phone before coming up with a remedy for your cat. I have had two subsequent conversations with him concerning my cat. I think I have spent around $400 for this consultation and treatment. I don't think this is a lot considering that all the regular vet work and surgery cost me around $1200.

I did not say that Metacam causes cancer. Only that it is being prescribed for cats WITH cancer and has been reported as causing serious liver damage and should not be used for any long-term therapy.

The current opinion regarding Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) and food selection leans more toward canned diets. The theory is that the canned foods contain more water and this helps to keep the urinary tract "flushed out."

There is an anti-inflammatory pain reliever that works well in cats but is not currently labelled for use in cats. Ask your veterinarian about using Metacam for pain control.

For sleep the kitten will make its very own cases, in all probability dozing contained in the early afternoon like at a million-3 and then back contained in the night around 9-12. a sturdy time to feed the kitten would be some moist foodstuff (canned cat foodstuff) contained in the morning from 6-9, and back at 6 contained in the night. by using fact the kitten is actual small and nevertheless transforming into it relatively is going to in basic terms choose like a nil.5 can if that whenever you feed it. additionally you will desire to have a bowl for dry foodstuff so the kitten can eat if it gets hungry on the different time. The kitten does not would desire to pass out, and that i does no longer reccomend it by using fact as quickly as you enable a cat out whilst they choose to maintain going out which isn't sturdy. If the kitten isn't clutter experienced yet all you will desire to do is take the kitten to her clutter container and positioned her in it, i be attentive to it sounds wierd yet in addition rub the kittens paw contained in the clutter(this may be a fashion that the mummy cat teaches them). And it relies upon on nuetering the kitten how previous it extremely is

ask about putting him/her on a special diet. They should have one specifically for this problem, and it comes in dry and wet depending on what your cat likes.
