Please do not convert currencies; I can do that! I want to know the relative value of A$80K salary in terms of its purchasing power. E.g., what is the average cost of a home in Australia (I know that it will vary from region to region, but a few sample points will be good).

$80k is quite a decent wage in Oz but not spectacular. An average teacher or a nurse would earn about $50k but 30 year old professionals like lawyers and accountants are probably more around the $100-120k mark. I earned $80k in Oz when I was about 25 (about 3 years ago) and I lived quite comfortably on that wage at the time. I had enough to travel a bit, buy lots of clothes, go out a few times a week and pay off nearly double my mortgage repayments on a $400k unit.
If you earn $80k, with tax you will probably only clear $50k. You're probably looking at about $300 per week for rent in Sydney.

For a job that only requires a GED, that's a good starting salary. Your having a degree isn't going to get you much extra money for a job that doesn't require it. You can try to negotiate, but you could end up losing the job that way. Depends on what your other options are. If they're offering $25K I'd be real surprised if you could negotiate it that high - $27K maybe, $32K not very likely. Good luck.

u can buy a nice 4 bdrm 2 bath house (15km & over form CBD). may just made 5 rms but in outer suburbs (25 km from CBD) also depend on which cities. most expensive; sydney, perth. melbourne, brisbane, & so on to the lowests. its good market , austaralian economy is going strong. i am trying to buy into the australian property. good luck & peace, man
