Go to http://carmax.com They usually have great deals. Also search for auto Auctions in your area. With that much money you could get a really nice car. They usually start bids at $200

$5,000 and "nice car" don't really go hand in hand.
What is your idea of a "nice" car? If your idea of a "nice" car is BMW or Mercedes Benz, then forget it.
All the Japanese cars that you can afford with $5,000 have a TON of miles on them.
For $5,000 you should be thinking American cars. I would look at 1994 -1999 Ford Thunderbirds. Those are pretty cool. You could get one with a leather interior and a V8 just like the Mustang GT's have. You will get power windows, power locks etc etc. What's more, Thunderbirds have Rear wheel drive so you don't have to worry about halfshafts and CV joints like a front wheel drive car has.
There aren't a whole lot of other cars in that category that I care for.
Thunderbirds look pretty cool with rims and tint. Just something to consider.
Again, you have not defined nice.

It's tough to suggest any particular car. I can say from experience that if you have cash to spend on it, you can save a lot of money buy buying a car off a private party, not a dealer. If you look on kbb.com you'll notice that private party value is always lower and this is because there's no middle man adding in his profit. So get an autotrader and find the cars that are a good value, most of which will be sold by a guy who's wife is making him get a new car. (2 of my cars) I got a ;93 BMW for 3300 bucks a few years ago. I was pretty proud of that one. I sold it a year later for 3000 so it only cost me 300 bucks with no repairs.

Come on in the financial water is fine. Use that money as a down payment and get a nice new car that you will look good in! Brand new Nissan Versa, Honda Fit or a Toyota Yarus. Total cost 12 to 17 thousand dollars and drive a new car that no one else has even driven it is a good thing. Payments so low you won't even feel it besides the credit cards will start arriving.

A honda civic or toyota corolla, you can drive those till the wheels fall off. I have a 90 civic with over 200,00 miles and still runs great. Just change your oil and spark plugs when needed. They have some nice ones for around that price in the autoshopper.

Look for a Lexus SC400. Blend of luxury and power. Should reach 300k miles without a worry.

i don't think 5000 dollars is going to get you a nice car...you will have to have more than that to get a good car, unless you want a worn down, used car....
