Many Goldens are not very laid back. The show Goldens are laid back, but the obedience ones are not. Springers are pretty active too!!! Most of the spaniels are...except the Clumber!!!!

Medium high to high energy level. Those with "field" lines are leggier and more intense, with more energy and would be better for running in agility. Goldens are said to have moderately high energy level, with "field lines" being higher. Either choice would be good, esp. if choosing one from the "field line". Both breeds do well in obedience, as well. Neither breed should be beyond your control.

IMO anyway, it depends on the breeding. Badly bred or field bred Springers can be very wild. Show bred springers are MUCH calmer.

Another breed you could look into is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. A friend of mine breeds them and they are very nice.

With Springers you will find the full spectrum, so you will want to research bloodlines. Some of the "field bred lines" can run your socks off. While there are some show lines that are very mellow and easy to handle.

Any of the sporting group of dogs normally are high energy, because they were bred to work. If you want a laid back dog, I would choose another breed.

I have had several in my dog obedience classes and they have a energy level of a german shepherd or a easy going lab or golder retriever. They are good agility dogs and obedience dogs

well its a sporting breed, so they have a very high energy level, however you have experience with goldens so I think you would be ok. Just dont get a lab. They are CRAZY!!!!!!!
