Sorry I have been watching too much Star Wars lately!... Even so they are still unique names for a dog, better than the generic "bear" or "shadow" for a black dog... at least if you want a name for a black dog that has a little more meaning behind it you can pick names from "The dark side of the force"..lol

Goliath, Amazon or Zeus. All three names give the connotation of being big, which is what your dog sounds like he's going to be. I would use the first or third for a male dog and the second for a female.

I am reminded of a cartoon that appeared in The New Yorker many years ago. The picture was of two men meeting on a street, one of whom had on a leash a dog, drawn as a black blob with only eyes showing. The caption: "Spot, eh? That's a good name." And, of course, there is always the George Carlin (I think) joke about spot remover...

base your name on it's personality as well as it's physical characteristics.
is there any spots in any particular places, does the animal do anything quirky or act human is certain instances..does it like certain activites better than others or certain music more than other?
I happen to like irony. My mini Chihuahua only weighs 4.6 lbs and will get no bigger. Is name is Zeus! I could have called him Hoover (like the vaccuum cleaner ) because all he ever does is sniff everything and anything and eats anything he can get his teeth on!!!

How about Brutus from the old popeye cartoons?I had a dog that i named ASKIM and feel free.People would say whats your dogs name?ASKIM lol..,had alot of fun with that name.
