they can read actions! Dont really know!
It's like when they pull someone over and ask if there's a dead body in the trunk! If you laugh about it or u look at them and say what the hell, they know ya dont! Where as a person who really does have a body in the trunk of the car they will say no without any hesitation. If they ask stuff and u act in a certain way, they know the truth..lol..sounds weird! Lets say u were a hooker with drugs you wouldnt get mad when asked, you would simply say no w/o hesitation or just plain yes! Where as if it were u or I that were asked we'd get mad and irate!
They always assume the worst so that they can expect the unexpected, and then they r prepared for anything!

Cops are always on the lookout for criminal activity, after all it's their job. Consider this: What was the area you were in like? Does it have a problem with drugs and prostitutes? Think about the late hour. Most normal people are home in bed that late. Were there many other people out walking? What were you dressed like? Don't get all defensive about that one. I'm not saying that you shouldn't be allowed to wear anything you want, but if the real hookers are wearing a certain "look" and you happen to be wearing something similar you can understand why the cop singled you out. Just remember, you may have been offended by the officer but he is just trying to clean the neighborhood up so that one day decent people can walk the streets at night and not be suspected like you were.

Last month I was punched, kicked and spit on, and I'm probably the nicest cop you'll ever meet. Having said that, most cops look for people that "play the part". If you're out hanging around on street corners at 11 PM with a mini skirt, it's not only the police that are going to think that you're a prostitute. Similarly if you approach every car that drives by you, everyone is going to assume that you're purchasing or selling (one thing or another), especially during late hours as most law abiding citizens don't walk to the convenience store at those hours.
I'd also like to point out that we usually assume that the worst is going on because.. well.. 99.99% of the time it is.

It's because their job is to take care of the bad people and situations in society. The Police get called to fights, robberies, drug deals, shootings, etc. They don't get called to group hugs, sharing, soliciting a high five, or smiling with intent to cheer up. If he accused you of buying drugs and looking like a hooker, you obviously gave him reason to suspect so. I have worked third shift for 9 years now, and am out all night long. I've never been pulled over or questioned in any way by the Police. They don't harass people "just because."

You have to understand that they usually deal with the sort of people who are buying drugs and prostituting, among other things. We have to cut them a little slack because it is their job to deal with the scum of society. It doesn't excuse them from being rude, but we must know when dealing with them that they deal with criminal minds and are trained to deal with criminal minds. If you think he was out of line call the local Captain and say so. One voice doesn;t mean much, but if he gets enough calls. . . .

Well really you shouldn't be out walking at night period, especially by yourself it's to dangerous..You may have been in an area where prostitues have been picked up before or where drugs have been known to be sold..I'd avoid walking that late at night for your own safety..unless your with someone..

Because if they always assumed the best, they would often be wrong. But that's the price we pay for living in a paranoid society.
