ok, this is going to sound bad, but here goes. i am throwing my daughter a birthday party this Sun. the problem is..I don't know what present to get her. I don't want to get toys, cause I figure enough friends will give her that, she needs clothes, and she loves to read. She is also 20 questions queen and has a thirst for knowledge. but, I don't want to be the typical mom that gets clothes, or something for school.
If any one has any ideas on what might work, plz let me know. She will be 6.

Ok Mom - she's having a party and is already going to get toys from her friends - you don't want to get her clothes - so.....

How about making up a special card and putting in either some money or gift certificates to her favourite store?? Being 6 and having some money of your own to go out and buy whatever you want can just be plain fun. There might be a toy - or a toy accessory that she doesn't get at her party - or maybe there is something to wear that she might want to buy for herself. This could show her that you are letting her grow up a little bit and letting her make a decision on what she wants to get - then make it a Mom and Daughter time to go pick out something special with her birthday present. Have a great time on Sunday!!

One of my friends has a "mom and daughter" day with her daughter every year. She takes the money from her birthday party that she receives as gifts, gives her some money as a gift from parents, and the two spend the day together shopping. The daughter picks out exactly what she wants and gets the best gift of all - quality time with mom!!

To add to that, I returned all of my daughter's gifts she didn't absolutely love and put the money on a gift card and she loved spending "her money" at her leisure.

Give her $30 and tell her that she can spend it anywhere she desire.

You and her can have a pizza day, ice cream day, go see a movie, buy some salads and juice and go to the park, or visit a VA Hospital and take some flowers and smiles.

Teach her how to be thankful and not always expect something. I am sure you know what I mean.

If she loves reading then buy her some books and the basic clothes she needs. She will love these gifts & then she will get toys aswell and she will have gotten everything, so to speak.

Get her some nonfiction books about things she is interested in. I have a six year old boy who is like a sponge for new information. He loves books with facts about dinosaurs, bugs, etc
Maybe a children's encyclopedia set. My kids alo love their globe. I know it sounds silly but they love looking at all the places in the world. Good luck!

You can buy her books and such. Some book stores sell the books that come with tapes or dvds so she can listen, read, or play along with the stories.

You can get her computer games where there is learning involved and you can get the books that are at certain reading levels.
