ill never understand that phrase. must be one of those christian "out of sight, out of mind" type things.

why anyone would want satan (assuming he exists) behind them is beyondme. if he did exist i would want him in front of me where i can see him.

but alas, christians and logic dont mix.

Jesus said it to Satan himself, when he was tempting him to turn away from God.

Luke 4:8 - And Jesus answered and said to him, "Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.'"

Jesus also said it to the Apostle Peter when he tried to convince Jesus that he wasn't really going to die.

Matthew 16:23 - But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men."
(also Mark 8:33)

Luke 4:6-8
And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.

8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
