blown head gasket

you did not mention what type of ford car, by the way this can happen to any make of vehicle. it could be a cracked head, block,head gasket, oil cooler,front cover gasket, or if the oil residue is only in the overflow and not the oil pan it may be the trans cooler inside the rad leaking. you can test for combustion gases inside the rad with lithmus paper but i would suggest going to the ford dealer or a larger garage. it may not hurt to get more than one opinion as i think it will be expensive. also even though it is too late now, for the next car you should change the coolant regularly as it gets corrosive if left in for more than 2-3 years and eats away at gaskets and can contribute to this situation

Has anyone mentioned it might be a crack in the block or head? Maybe you'll get lucky and it's just a head gasket leaking.

If it has an oil cooler it may be leaking inside of itself. Cracked head is the other,

ok here ya go. fork + your car= its done! the moisture has done its duty in the bearings, lifters, just about everything. i seriously doubt that youll have a long lasting engine after you repair whatever is cracked/leaking

ur head gasget has gone, it easy to change and is cheap to repair urself but take it to a garage and get it sorted sould cost no more than £80-£100

your already well on the way to spinning a bearing! If you catch it early, you might not ruin anything. its affectionately called the "milkshake". When the fluids are under pressure together, they form that mess. it's fun to have to clean out!
