Do we offend you in any way by believing in God?

2006-09-14 12:11:13 · 25 answers · asked by Moppie098 2 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

I am not a Christian. I'm a Muslim. And I don't force anyone to convert to my religion, neither do I tell them they will burn in hell if they don't. I respect other religions. Just because I don't agree with them is not a reason for me to attack them. Likewise, our beliefs should not be a reason for you to attack us, since they are not a threat to you or your loved ones.

Al Qur'an 109:1-6 (Al Kafirun (those who reject faith)):

"Say: O ye that reject Faith! I worship not that which ye worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship. And I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship. To you be your way, and to me mine."

It is simple. You scare us.

Extremists of your faiths let you down. We see religion as an excuse for justifying any horrific, despicable action that a personor group of people wants to commit. Genocide, mass murder, assassinations, torture, knowledge suppression, absurd morality, persercution of women etc etc etc.

It has been that way for thousands of years and continues today.

Bin Laden is just the tip of iceberg for us but because of his wide publicity he is the epitomy of what we are fearful of.
I wonder if he realises just how much damage he is doing to the long term viability of religion.

By the way I think this is a brilliant question.
It is questions like this that really trigger mutual understanding.

Atheists are the most miserable and unhappiest people among mankind. They are always angry and resentful. Hey atheists if you do not have a mother or a father, there is no God okay? If you can't even control your own heartbeat at your own will and bidding, better start thinking, because life is really unpredictable. Death can come in the blinking of an eye. What if there is really a God, after you die, waiting for you, just like a judge after you commit a felony? Do you think He will be pleased with your ingratitude?

I beg your pardon, I do not spit on anyone for their beliefs. So why did I get some of the answers I received today to a question I asked? And those bad answers were from Christians. I ask questions to learn what other people think and why they believe the way they do not to put them down.
Please direct your question to the ones who act rude and nasty and that includes a lot of Christians.

I don't know any Atheists that spit on believers. I was almost attacked by Christians though when I went into Planned Parenthood for a pregnancy test.

Why do Christians get so upset when people have differing beliefs? Does it offend them when others are happy in different faiths?

Why do believers spend so much time fighting over how to worship the same God, and putting down other's who have a belief in a different God.

It is not the fact that you believe in God.

It is the fact that many of your brethern who believe in God take great pains to inform me that I am unworthy and I am condemned to hell, where I can roast in the eternal fires aloing with such notables as Hitler and Stalin.

it is this overweening arrogance that you are saved, as your faith is the one true religion and since I have no faith, I will spend eternity suffering for this.

Now, adding to my consternation is that I am a Catholic and I have been informed that since my religion isn't the right religion, or the proper religion, I will join the atheists and agnostics in hell for my beliefs.

If your faith gives you hope and serenity, I am happy for you. I have no qualms in how you practice your faith or to whom you address as your God (or non-God).

i would expect the same courtesy in return.

By Believing in god no.

By trying to concert us against our will. Yes.
By threatening us with Hell. Yes.
By advocating we should be stoned. Yes.
By intolerance. Yes. I accept that people from all shades of opinion are guilty of this.

All of these thing and more have happened to me. If you are guilty of any of these then yes you are offensive. If not then I wish you well.

I have never spit on a christian.

I don't spit on believers. I try to treat everyone I meet with the same amount of respect and kindness. If they are trying to overtly convert me, or try to get me to see things "their way" then I just end the conversation and walk away.

I wouldn't treat anyone with disrespect just because of their beliefs. I notice that a lot of Christians are quick to judge though.

I'm gay. I spit BACK at believers.

I'm also into science. Believers keep trying to force their fables on everyone as fact. Creationism has absolutely NOTHING to do with fact.

And there are many other reasons.

Take this as you answer from from someone that studies things like this:

2 Peter 3:2-4 (King James Version)

2That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
