Faith : (1) : firm belief in something for which there is no proof (2) : complete trust

It just seems to me that needing to have faith in something is an admission that NO Proof exists to confirm something as absolute fact...yes? no?

Where did you pull this definition out of? "Firm belief in something for which there is no proof" You're an idiot if you think this is what faith is. You're an even bigger idiot if you think this is what Christians think. Faith is believing and trusting in something. Why would anyone believe in anything where there is NO proof? There is so much proof out there!!

Then you make your stupidity even more obvious by saying: It just seems to me that needing to have faith in something is an admission that NO Proof exists to confirm something as absolute fact...yes? no?

Do you put faith in air planes, cars or trains? Do you put faith in money to buy stuff? Do you put faith in gravity? Yes you do, and they all exist.

I don't care how you put, you can call it faith, you can call it belief, but the Bible is absolute fact, like the sun is 93 billion miles away, it can be measured for accuracy just like any other fact.

You need FAITH to believe the Bible is fact! Yes, there are some difinitive actual findings (archeological/historical) that confirm that certain things in the Bible are true. For example, for years people said that Pontius Pilate did not exist, until the last decade when an ancient artifact was discovered in Rome with an incription regarding Pontius Pilate. That "proves" that he indeed exhisted and confirms the Bible's mention of him. However, there are many aspects of the Bible that cannot be proven at this point. For example, there is no hard evidence that Jesus ever walked on water - only report by witnesses, but Christians believe it to be true because we have faith that the Bible is God's word, and thus, everything in it is truth. It is there that faith comes in.

The Bible is a Book of Faith and although it is based on many historical facts, its main purpose is not to tell about history but to tell about the existence of God through faith. It could be likened to your Great great grandfather whom you may never have seen but through stories told over and over, you believed the story said about them. It is your trust and your faith in your parents that you believe them. Old photos and some written memoirs could prove it just the same as what was written in the Holy Book. No one claimed it to be an absolute fact, some are still being searched in many ways to find the truth. some have been proven, some were hoaxes, but faith is what makes the Book believable.

Good question Stephanie! The Bible is not 100% accurate but there are some things to take into consideration before declaring the Bible an invalid source to believe in.

There are some problems with the Bible and errors. Please remember, the Old Testament was passed down by oral tradition before the technology of writing was available. Compared to the Quran which existed long after the technology for writing was invented. So, yes there are errors.

Secondly, there are different ways to interpret based upon the "literary forms" of writers. Depending whether it is in a historical context, prophetic, poetry, or some other type of literary form.

If you took a Bible course and discovered what SCRIPTURAL TYPOLOGY is you would be amazed. If you knew what SALVATION HISTORY was in the Bible you would understand. If you recognized DIVINE AUTHORITY you would know that there has to be someone in authority to reveal the "secret" truths God has given. If you research all those phrases you will begin a journey of discovery that will last a life time.

We have a saying in Catholicism: the New Testament is hidden in the Old and the Old is revealed in the New. There are many mysteries contained in the Bible that I have been amazed at discovering for the past 20 years and there is a whole lot more. St. Jerome said: Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. The whole Bible is about our SALVATION: Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ fulfilled over 300 prophesies in the Old Testament about the Messiah you can discover 50 of them in cd's IT IS WRITTEN.

WHEN YOU HAVE BEGUN TO DISCOVER THESE THINGS YOU WILL KNOW IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE BEEN WRITTEN BY MAN. Jesus (a historical figure along with others in the Bible that are not fictitional characters) by fulfilling just 50 prophesies makes the odds of doing that 10X135 power! An astronomical figure that could not have been achieved by human means.

The thing that might shock you and others is that SATAN used scripture to tempt Jesus. So, too Satan will use scripture to trip us up from following the true faith. This is why there has to be DIVINE AUTHORITY that passes from the Old Testament to APOSTOLIC SUCCESSION in the New Testament. This is why someone cannot Authoritatively pick up a Bible and correctly interpret it nor can there be millions of interpretors to HOLY SCRIPTURE. There can only be one!

In 2 Esdras 4:1-11 an angel, Uriel, reveals the limitations of the human mind:

The Angel Uriel, who had been sent to me, replied, "You can't even understand what happens in this world. Do you think you can understand the ways of God Most High?"

"Yes, sir, I do!" I answered.
The angel continued, "I have been sent to ask you to solve three riddles about what happens in this world. If you can explain even one of them to me, I will answer your questions about God's ways and teach you why the human race has an evil impulse."
"I agree sir, " I said.
The he said to me, "Good! How do you weigh out a poind of fire? How do you measure a bushel of wind? How do you bring back a day that has passed?"

I answered, "Why do you ask me such question? No human being could answer them."

Then he said, "What if I had asked you how many dwelling places there are at the bottom of lthe sea? How many rivers flow into the waters beneath the earth? How many rivers are there above the dome of the sky? Where are the exists from the world of the dead? Where are the entrances to Paradise? If I had asked you these questions, you might have answered, 'I have never gone down into the waters beneath the earth, and I have not yet entered the world of the dead. I have never gone up to heaven. But all I have asked you about is fire, wind, and the day that has just passed -- things that you have experienced. Yet you have given me no answer. You can't even understand things that you have been familiar with since you were a child. How then can your little mind understand the ways of God Most High? Can a man already worn down by this corrupt world understand the ways of the incorrubible God?"

So, you see, faith is needed to fill the limits of the human mind.

God promised me the life of my son.Still I have spent months in Intensive care units watching and waiting while Doctors tell me he is going to die and they do not want to resuscitate.I pray and I get one word "wait".I tell the doctors they must continue and they tell me I am only torturing him.Three days later they all get together and go in for another look. They find the problem and repair it.My son is eight now.We just spent three weeks in the hospital with complications after heart surgery and are doing IV antibiotics at home now for two weeks and have two to go.
My point being, you can not imagine how much can happen between a promise and a fact that can strain the strongest faith.
The story of Abraham or Job should tell you even knowing we are subject to doubt and have nothing but faith.

There are internal and external evidences for the infallibility of the Holy Bible.

There are no absolute proofs that would stank up in courts of law, though there have been numerous lawyers who, in seeking to disprove the Scriptures have, in fact, actually became convinced of the veracity of those Scriptures.

And I would suggest that "Faith" is not "firm belief in something for which there is NO proof"; rather, Faith is that whereby we believe that which some refuse to believe because they refuse to be convinced.

besides the undeniable fact that some human beings, which includes myself, have self assurance that the Bible is the observe of God, distinctive us don't think it hasn't been unaltered, on condition that King Jimmy and Marty-Come-recently for sure altered it. What makes the Bible extra " ' God inspired' from now on than the Tao Te Ching, or for that remember, the reproduction of 'Bartender's Pocket handbook' "? You for sure have in no way been a severe student of the Bible, and for this reason leave this variety of niche of expertise that to purpose to describe it right here on solutions could bypass far previous what Yahoo has applications for, or which you would be able to understand in this variety of format. bypass learn the Bible, heavily learn it, and then come again and attempt to place your "question" in a extra clever format. God Bless you.

well heres how it goes: when they say is absolute fact theyre not really saying its absolute fact, what theyre really saying is that they WANT it to be absolute fact so much that theyre calling it "fact" already. its like Bush's preemptive strike. its going to be fact so soon that theyre going to CALL it fact even though it isnt yet.

of course itll never be fact...but that hasnt apparently stopped them. theyre goign to call it fact anyways.
