Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. I have tried every dog food out there and spent hours researching the subject until I found Royal Canin. They have put a lot of time into making a great dog food, and they also make breed specific dog food. They realized certain breeds had different needs and designed their foods to fulfill them. One of my dogs is on their adult food and he looks the best he has ever. Not to mention both of my dogs are picky eaters and this is the first time they both LOVE the food. Check out their website, royalcaninus.com it very informational.

Royal Canin actually has a food made specifically for poodles! They cater to different breeds/sizes. It's pricey, though.

My poodles hated Nutro for some reason.

But get this... I use 2 different vets & *both* tell me to use Purina or Pedigree or Iams! Say I'm spending money I don't have to on higher priced food. I do know Purina just came out w/ a special food for toy dogs, too... I saw the ad.

They tell me if I feel better spending more money then to get Science Diet. lol

The best? Pedigree Complete, great for puppies and adult dogs because it's 100% nutritionally complete. I buy the small bites type, with the golden retreiver on the front of the big yellow bag. It's small bites so it's good for various types of puppies and dogs. I've tried other brands before for variety, and I ended up having to re-worm my golden retreiver! She got all messed up from those other brands. I came back to this type of dog food and it's the only kind I will buy for her from here on out!! Nothing else compares to it, she's got a beautiful coat as well. It's great and affordable!!!

Nutro
Royal Canin

Both are excellent foods, whether you have a large or small breed dog. They are a bit higher in price, but they have less if any additives, and they monitor the protien and fat count, where others are generally too high.

Artemis Small Breed is the best by far. Also, look into California Natural, Innova, Canidae, and Wellness.
Read labels. Avoid all corn and wheat products. Also, animal-by-products, animal digest, preservatives and fillers.
