if you can take your camera phone overseas in the army? and also if any companys give discounts to service people overseas?

the reason i ask is because someone swore up and down that the recuters lie and that they "know people who were told they couldn't have their phones.

You can have a camera phone but not in basic or tech school. Have a family member send it after you are finished. Yes there are companies that give discounts but you have to look for them.

Vanessa W:

Lots of varied answers, huh! I'm not sure you could get service if it was your intention to use the phone as a phone. As a camera, I guess so, but wouldn't it be better just to get a camera?

As a member of the military you would probably make must of your day to day purchases at the nearest PX (Post Exchange) which already offers deeply discounted prices.

I've noticed that you've posted several questions about military service. That tells me that you're a pretty intelligent gal, and that you don't just jump into situations without getting all the facts.

You will do well in the service, and as I said in my answer to another of your questions, "Thank You" for serving your country.

You're allowed to carry camera phones for personal use.

Depending on the security measures within a given area you may or may not be able to carry it with you onto the premise.

What many fail to understand is that the Army Recruiter is not signing the individual up. It's the soldier at MEPS who gives you the contract. He usually isn't versed on what the recruiter did or did not tell you. It's the individuals job to over-see that everything "promised" was written into the contract.

Sounds like stupid people making lethargic assumptions.

My hubby is in Iraq ad has a cell phone but one reccomendation is wait and purchase one there they are apporx. $70 and min are actually cheaper than the phone cards when you buy them from the Iraqi's that come to you FOB. Also if you want to take pictures invest in a digital camera a good one runs from $40 up compared to here in the states.

Hope this helped

yes you can. make sure it is tri-ban or it won't work. you can get new phones overseas unless it it to Iraq you want to take it. I'm sure some phone companies might have some discounts for soldiers but I'm not sure.

Wow, talk about roaming charges! I really don't know, but I would think camera phones would not be an acceptable piece of equipment while out on patrol.

bchrist stop making up stories. I have met several people who have been over there and they are all fine.

I don't know if you can bring over phones, but you can take digital cameras.

Whether or not you can take a camera phone with you will be the least of your concerns if you join the military.

Your phone won't do you much good overseas. No towers.
