India is almost tied with China when it comes to the country with the most population. India almost have a billion people.

India is very up there in the world. But your question is way too general. I think your question would be more effective if asked when will India be the top-ranking in _______? For example, may political scientists say that India will overcome china in younger population and productive capacity (i beleive, but dont quote me on it.) So for the person who said never, never say never.

first in what sense? there are so many issues which India would have to concur. eg population, poverty, illness, corruption etc. and over coming all these and more of these kinds would take a hell lot of time. there cannot be a particlar time or year in which any one would say that India would rank first. but gradually India can cover each and every issue and rank first in repective fields.

It is not like getting 1st Rank in a class U know ,It is not only 4 india but it is 4 every nation that they will be 1st only becoz of unity. India will be 1st only when we 100 million are united.
