You need to see a doctor to get a prescription for birth control pills. You can ask him/her.

The first month you are on birth control it has no effect on you ability to get pregnant, which means you are completely vulnerable to getting pregnant. If you take it regularly after that (same time every day, without missing a pill) then it is very effective at preventing pregnancy, but for the first year, it is not as effective as it is after that. I believe you have a 1% higher likelihood the first year.
However, it NEVER protects against STDs, so you should not be having unprotected sex. Ever. And the pill isn't perfect, people still get pregnant on it, so ALWAYS use a back up method, like a condom.

First off you should never have unprotected sex because of diseases (and you can still get pregnant...birth control is not 100%)...but if you really know that guy and you feel that he is clean than it is your life. Now...which type of birth control do you mean (there are many different types) but if you are talking about the pill, I was told you have to still use a condom atleast 2 weeks from when you first started the pill...if you let me know which birth control you are thinking of I can give you more info...

if you are with a person for a long time - meaning a relationship where you hav beeen both checked out and it is loyal - then i would suggest 14 days to be on the safe side.
If you are just using birth control because of many partners perhaps - then always use protection
even if you are in a relationship - it is best if it has been a good 3- 4 months before u start using birth control to make sure, you can trust him and loyal with you - (he could say he has been checked out and is clear for anything but you never know for sure)

Birth control pills only protect against pregnancy. STD's will still GET YOU if you have sex without using a condom!!! Pregnancy is the least of the "bad" things that can happen to you!! Many sexually transmitted diseases ARE NOT CURABLE! They are NOT worth having "unprotected" sex with ANYONE! You are MUCH more important than that!
If you INSIST on having sex with someone without using a condom, then make them go to a clinic and GET TESTED for STDs and ONLY THEN have sex with them!! If they EVER have unprotected sex with ANYONE other than you, DUMP THEM or make them get tested again!
You are worth every precaution that modern science gives you to protect yourself from disease!!! Any man who isn't willing to help protect you CERTAINLY is NOT worth having sex with!
Good luck and Goddess Bless the person who makes GOOD CHOICES about their bodies!

If you are on birth control you are having semi protected sex at best and that is a month into the process. You really should not rely on the pill to protect you. It won't cover STDs and it is not fool proof.

You had better watch yourself...if you've both been checked out for STDs...do yourself an additional favor and have a blood test for herpes. You may be surprised and this will change your outlook. The odds are pretty good that one of you will have it. 2 out 5 do.
Monogomous? Then play to your heart's content but wait 2-3 weeks first

There's never a time you don't use protection. It's always safe for you & especially for you. A woman's body belongs to her & no one else. How you treat it will show in later years.
