I heard it leaves silicone buildup all over your hair. I love it so much but I don't want to use it if it's bad. Maybe I could use it but also use a clarifying shampoo once a week.

I've been using it for years and I still recommend it to all my friends! I too use the clarifying shampoo once a week to keep down the build up. Use only the ones for you own hair type and you'll be just fine :)

Silicone coats you hair and makes it very shiny and manageable, but it also seals out moisture, and dry hair breaks easily. The silicon also hides the damage it has done so you can't see it until you get the silicon off. A clarifying shampoo, followed by a moisturising treatment every 5 washes or so should put enough mositure back into your hair that you don't have to worry about the silicon keeping moisture out all the time. Don't be surpised to see lots of split ends if you do a clarifying treatment after using Pantene for ages. It's not the clarifying shampoo damaging your hair, it's just cleaned off all the silicone which has been hiding the splits casued by moisture not getting in.

Almost all shampoos leave a silicone buildup, but it's conditioner that really leaves a residue - that's why you shouldn't use too much and rinse well . I also use Pantene and love it. Also, I have seen on many consumer shows that Pantene is one of the best products out there. It's a combination of all the other products that we put on our hair, colouring, mousse, gels, hairspray, etc. that does the damage. And I have been told by my hairdresser that regardless of what shampoo or hair products you use, it wouldn't hurt to use a clarifying shampoo occasionally to get rid of the residue.

Coming from someone that has actually used it...NO. I loved it. I have dry hair and it gets static very easily, and I loved the one for dry, ethnic hair. I thought it would make my hair overly greasy, but it didn't. And I'm not even ethnic. My mom's been using it for years now and her hair looks amazing. She colors (semi-perm.) and blowdries it everyday too. Her hair has never fallen out from it, or gotten stiff, or whatever these other people are talking about. I think it depends on the person too...Maybe if you're using permanant haircolor and putting goop in your hair, maybe it'll mess it up. But neither of us have had a problem with it. And her hair is opposite from mine, so I know it's not the dryness.

If you look at the posts making Pantene look bad, it's coming from people that say they've "heard Pantene is bad for your hair". But I gaurentee you, they've never tried it. My in-laws own a salon, and they actually have a bottle of Pantene with their other sampoos! If it was so bad, it would've been taken off the market long ago. It does leave the silicone buildup, yes, but you're generally supposed to rinse your hair well. A good way to do this is a cold rinse. This helps get out any buildup that hasn't already come off from shampooing, any extra conditioner, and it seals the shaft, sealing in moisture so your hair appears shiny after.

For a hairstylist to recommend Pantene is a sin!!!!

It is mostly made of wax and water. It will leave a build up on the hair for sure when using wax.

I would never, ever use a over the counter shampoo. Did you know alot of over the counter shampoos & other hair products can sit in a warehouse for as long as 6 yrs. before hitting a store shelf? How do they keep those products fresh all that time? Alot of times they use alcohol as a preservative. Alcohol will dry your hair out so fast.

Ever wonder why Paul Mitchell, Webb Gram, Matrix and so on change their packaging so much? To assure you that you are getting fresh product, most professional change the packaging every 2-3 yrs. to let you know you are getting fresh products. Once I seen a bunch of Paul Mitchell products at a Meijers store, they had all the old packaging which told me that they were out dated. Professional products are only sold in professional salons, when you buy outside of the professionals it is hard telling what you are getting.

I like Pantene but use a good clarifying shampoo once a week to clean up any build up from different hair products that you use on your hair. I've used Pantene for years.

Like every other shampoo I am sure it will leave some build up so the clarifying shampoo is a good idea. I dont think it will hurt your hair.

I love it for me and my daughter and my mother has never told me that it was bad for hair, and she has owned and operated a salon for 25+ years.
