Okay, today is my 16th birthday, and I'm just very depressed. I miss Seattle. (I moved ten years ago. Trust me, I know it's a VERY long time, but think about it this way: I moved from the city with the second highest rate of suicide and depression to the first. I don't know about you, but I think that is plain weird.) Not to mention that I have absolutely no classes with any of my good friends because they all have different schedules than I do. I'm not having a party; I'll just probably end up eating cake by myself. Is it okay to be sad, or should I just suck it up and put on a happy face? Please don't be mean!
P.S. Forgive me, I didn't know where on earth to list this question.

I understand being a little depressed on your birthday... I was when I turned 25 (which was a while ago) I am almost twice your age, and I think that you should make the most of the day that you can, getting older isn't always easy. That is why I am going to Las Vegas for my 20+10 birthday because I figured I might as well make a big deal out of it. Go out with some friends, and have fun! HaPpY bIrThDaY!!!

i used to live in seattle too, and all my relatives are there. i miss them a lot, and wish i could go back soon. but you shouldn't ruin your birthday!! 16 is really important!! sweet 16. it's a big deal. it's ok to miss things, but that doesn't mean that you can just throw away your life. make new friends in your classes. i try to have at least one good friend in all of my classes. i always feel happy when i make a new friend because it's like i found another person that likes me for who i am. it's a good feeling. so, your 16th birthday comes around once in your whole life, so i say celebrate! be happy. i cry a lot in my room, it's good to let your feelings out if you miss something. but enjoy life because it's short. happy 16th birthday!!

It's OK to be sad once in a while. Life is full of twists and turns and just when you think you have a handle on it, it throws you another curve ! And there are a lot of lessons to be learned along the way. If you are lucky you will come out of it with a little more knowledge and a lot more character. So cheer up you are young and you have a long way to go !

It's ok but it's a pity.
Why not at least try to look on the brightside. Your another year older to the time when you can earn some money and have the independence to go back to seattle. If you think hard enough there is always something to be happy about.
Do some to cheer yourself up. Something crazy

YOU were born on this day. You have a right to these feelings no matter what the day is. Let your family know how you feel. It feels much better to let out your emotions. I know from experience. anyone who say that you're ruining your special day is wrong.
It's YOUR special day. Not theirs. They don't have a place to complain. You will find happiness again. Don't give up okay?
Happiness can be found, or rediscovered. Though that I'm afraid, is yours to find. Make the most out of your young years.
Happy Birthday!

tell 10 people how you feel your parents siblings if you have any aunts and uncles, friends at school. Ask if they can come to your house or cake and soda after school or for dinenr make a simple supper like spagetti and have some balloons. You can make a cake from a mix you need to celebrate You. You matter. If you feel suicidal see the school counselor right away. I how you make a special day for yourself and have some fun/

It's OK to be sad on your birthday or any other day for that matter but I don't recommend sadness. If you aren't going to have a party then take yourself out to the movies or shopping. Give yourself a one person party and have fun despite your situation.

Seattle has the second highest rate?? Man...none of MY classmates are depressed. Okay, well...
Of course it's okay. I don't think it's WISE or anything (try inviting a few of your friends to go see a movie or something??) but it's not like you CAN'T do it.

I've been depressed on more than one birthday. It is okay. Allow yourself to have emotions and don't judge yourself for not being happy all the time. You are human. Be yourself. That is all anyone should ever want from you.
