Yes they do, the eggs are dirty when layed, so the must be washed and in some cases they are painted with a food based white wash.

yes, because if you ever seen a chicken egg directly from the barn it's usually got stuff stuck on it. Like the hen's feet could be dirty, straw sticks to them, all kinds of things. So the shell is washed, it's healthier and it's more presentable when you open the carton. Would you buy dirty eggs over clean ones? Probably not.

None that I know of, & I've never heard of any washing eggs. It would involve too much time. They come to the store in the same condition in which you get them when you purchase them from the store. My parents owned grocery stores most of my growing up years & the eggs always came to us already clean.

In fact, those eggs have been washed by farmers. There are too many germs on the shell. BTW, if your kids are very little, you don't let them eat half-cooked eggs. It is better to eat well-done eggs.

I've watched the big store chains stock eggs on the shelf after they cut open the box they came in. So no they don't.

No because most people don't eat the shell. And if they are washed at all, the company who ships them does it to get the dirt and chix poo offf of them.
