Hmmm....could it be that a part of you just does not want to believe that there is NOTHING after this life? Could it be that a part of you does not want to believe there is NO creator?

Is it possible that your own conscience does not want to give up entirely on the HOPE that there is something better after this life ends? You may not feel as though you need to know, for absolute fact, that there is a peaceful afterlife...but it could be that a part of you wants to at least have the hope that life in some form does continue on.

Even though most of the Christians posting here will say that they believe the bible is factual...they cannot prove, by physical scientific means, that the bible does contain absolute facts (like the genesis birth of the universe story). That is why Faith is still so much a part of the Christian vocabulary.

If christians had physical evidence backing up the stories found in Genesis...well, they would not need to have faith, now would they?

There is nothing wrong with having hope that there is something more than this life...just try not to go around reinforcing your hopes by trying to force or coerce other people into believing that your hopes are the only way to some kind of salvation.

When you cry, I heard that every tear is counted in heaven. Do not be afraid when the tears come. They are gifts from the Holy Spirit. They are gifts of healing. Your heart heals when you cry. I had to learn this myself.

God knows your pain. Talk to Him. Ask Him questions. Even if you are confused or unsure, take your time. Go slow. He knows what you need and when you need it and will give you all the comfort you need.

He does this because you are His precious child in His eyes, and He loves you. Please take that to heart. Know that He loves you.

I was one of those that grew up feeling worthless and unwanted. My self confidence was almost nonexistent, I was a prisoner to fear, and my life was at a standstill. I was always Christian, but I was a lost Christian. As I think about things now, I often wonder how close I came to the edge of suicide. I never actually tried it or really contemplated it, but I think now that the way things were then, it might have only been a matter of time.

I'm 31 and finally found Jesus when I found His Holy Church. I went from lost to found and became catholic on May 15, 2005. It is the best decision I've ever made.

God took His time with me and I am beginning to get my stride back, more confident, centered and balanced. I'm still sorting through a lot of things, but I have Him now, and life really couldn't be better.

I pray this helps you, and feel free to write back anytime if you like.

God bless.

I honestly don't know if you will read this, but I hope you do. I'm a Christian, and reading the Bible makes ME want to cry too. It's not because it's fiction, either. Few fiction books make me cry. Anyway, are you sure you're athiest or do you just want to know what most of the people in the world believe? Well, either way, you are reading the book by the greatest Author ever, who transforms men and women, and you should expect to change, like that athiest who penned the Gospels. He was converted in a year working on that. what hope do you have? don't resist, and maybe start asking why you are crying. maybe God IS trying to tell you something, so you're beliefs are changing. Who knows? Be open-minded and curoius about it.

Tom,
Thanks for being honest about your emotion.
One thing for sure is I respect what you are no matter what, but perhaps God and the Holy Spirit who love you so are directing you to read the Holy Bible more often, and go to church eventually. You know God loves you.

My suggestion: Just go see a priest, see what he says, and you don't have to join a parish or anything just check it out, see if God speaks to your heart, and go with your faith always. Blessings.

Tom Science. Nice name. Science is a discipline to learn and manipulate natural laws to help mankind. Pure science seeks to learn laws that may be used in the future but are not necessarily useable immediately. Applied science is only interested in laws that they can use to help man immediately.

Science is not designed to explain something that is outside of time and space.

My personal opinion is that God is speaking to you. Listen to him, it will be the best thing you ever do in your life. Just pray the prayer. Admit you are a sinner. Ask for forgiveness for your sins. Ask Jesus to live in your heart. It's as simple as that.

Then I recommend finding a good Bible believing church. I am Baptist, so I recommend Baptist. Go with what feels right. God will direct you. You just need to take the first step. May the peace of God be with you.

Great literature has that effect. Haven't you ever reacted that way to a novel, or even to a movie? Does being moved by "Titanic" make one a worshipper of luxury liners?...or just the awesome talents of Kate Winslet? That, I could believe.

Because you have feelings - any well written story (such as the holy bible) will give anyone with feelings some type of reaction ... and it's okay to feel that way ;-)
