Meowing might mean they miss their favorite hiding place or their favorite window to stare out of. Staring at things that aren't there is probably that they saw a shadow or reflection on the wall from the TV when they change scenes or by a car passing by. But I wouldn't discount the spirits theory either.

If you are being for real, then you have reason to be concerned. My cat did this....although myself and my spouse noticed odd things going on like someone walking down the hall at night and going into the office at night and finding the light on, the computer connected to the internet, the fan on full blast and papers strewn everywhere....and our cat would see things in the living room and den. He would arch his back and hiss and the hairs on his body would stand on end. We finally had to call a priest. The house was demonically obsessed. We had no trouble after that.

Yes I believe so. But then they can also see itty bitty little bugs like gnats. They meow and paw at the gnats...the bugs are harmless but that could be the reason.

The cats are hearing termites knocking about the woodworks. Put your ear to the wall or floor, and you'll hear them too.

I think they can, every time I get drunk I throw the bottle of rum at the cat and it usually jumps out of the way before it gets hit. OOPs you meant the other spirits. Sorry I'm to drunk right now and throwing bottles, can't help you

That's mostly because they're cats in a new place. They're probably willing the wall to become the door they're used to having there.

I think they sense something we don't. My cats act like that all the time and they really are looking at something I don't see. It creeps me out!

cats are very intuitive animals
however if you have just moved home .. they will take time to get used to their surroundings , they are very emotional creatures and dont like change
i dont feel in this case it is spirits upsetting them .. just change
