My eyes water like crazy. It's mostly set off by things that would normally cause people's eyes to water, but in lighter conditions (eg, wind makes your eyes water, but with mine, a slight breeze sets them off). Same with the sun, smoke, laughter etc. It's happens a lot when I'm driving (which is quite dangerous as I can't see!) One eye seems to do it more than the other. It's not eye strain coz I can sit at a PC all day without crying! Sometimes they water at random... any ideas?

It actually sounds like the opposite of what one would think.

It sounds to me like Dry Eye Syndrome.

If the eye is too dry normally then a slight irritation that others would not notice may produce excessive tearing.

It can also be blocked tear ducts. But if you are having this problem in both eyes at the same time it is unlikely.

You need to see an opthalmalogist for a proper diagnosis. Optometrists mostly check vision and screen for other problems. Opthalmologists are medical doctors that will be able to treat the problem they diagnose.

Eye irritation
Smoke
Eye infection
Windy conditions
Eyelash in eye
Eye foreign body
Contact lens irritation
Eye strain
Eyelid malposition
Eating spicy foods
Pain reaction - tearing eyes can be a reaction to any type of pain

Pet allergies
Dry eyes - can lead to watery eyes after the dry eyes.
Eyelid disorders
Lupus

I would recommend seeing your MD. You could have another diagnosis and this is just a symptom.

It could be an allergy and perhaps the doctor can suggest an eye drop to help.Or you may just have very sensitive tear ducts. My eyes water like crazy when I laugh.People always think I'm crying!

I work in a pharmacy, and if someone came in with these symptoms, id probably recommend getting your eyes checked over properly. I imagine youve tried all they eye drops already, so the next step is your optometrist.
