I do the accounts manually for my dads business. He buys houses, renovates them and then lets them out! Last year he only had 2 houses but now he's got 32 and constantly buying more. This years accounts are going to be a big job, i'm dreading next years cos he's likely to have well over 60!
Can anyone recommend any good accounts packages that are designed for this type of business. It does need to be a specialist package i would have thought. I dont thing SAGE is any good!

The best package I found was quick books. It gives clear instructions and is easy to adapt to any type of business. End of month bank reconciliations are very easy to do. I have taught people to use quick books that have no account background and they liked it because of this.

I agree, sage is not likely to be the best package for this type of business, but only because of the WIP calculations and looking at profitability per house. Unfortunately, i have not prepared accounts for this type of business, so i cant really recommend a package, but im sure you could do it in excel if you had to.

Here's the site for an EXCELLENT little piece of software that is just nearly magical as far as I'm concerned. It's a bit of a project to get it set up but it's fantastic. http://www.accountz.com/

Either Quickbooks (which I prefer) or you can use peachtree. They are both pretty good and will get the job done. good luck
