This morning I asked several questions about abortion. In particular, three questions asked how would you force unwillingly pregnant women to carry the baby to term.

No one offered a plan, though many spoke out against abortion.

Two of those questions pointed out that without a plan, these people were, de facto, supporting desperate women committing suicide, throwing themselves down staircase, using coat hangers and other horrific procedures to terminate their pregnancy (links provided below).

Not one person opposing abortion spoke out against these alternatives to a safe, legal, medical abortion.

Now maybe it was the time of day. Maybe it was a particular crowd. And I'm giving those of you who didn't see these earlier questions an opportunity to speak out now.

It is fine to oppose horrific procedures if you support legal abortion. It is fine to oppose legal abortions if you are willing to state how you would detect and -force- unwillingly pregnant women to carry to term

But it is not fine to scream "Murder!" without a plan and while supporting horrific procedures like coat hangers and suicides.

I'm glad you're not evil ;-)

Before legal abortion, that was the way things were done. It didn't stop women from committing suicide, or using coat hangers, or any of the horrific procedures I've described. You've not answered the question. You've engaged in dangerously unrealistic wishful thinking.

I didn't see the earlier posts around this topic. It is one that, as a woman I struggle with. The mother who has the power to create life within me sees fetuses as human potential...a created being who is a result of an act of love between two people. It is a sacred being who deserves to be protected. That's one side.

The other side of me says this: If I had been impregnated when I was raped, I may not think of this human potential in the same way. I hope I would, but not having been in that position, I never had to make that awful decision. I hope that if the thought of looking into the face of a baby created by violence was something I could not bear, I hope I would give the baby life and put it up for adoption before ever seeing him/her. But I don't know if I could. It would be 1/2 me and that would help but I just don't know. I would need to have a way out if I simply couldn't manage the stress of carrying that pregnancy. I would feel desparate I imagine and maybe I would act in desparation, depending on what support I had around me (or lack thereof). It might be something I wouldn't choose to survive...I hope I would be strong enough, but how can I know?

So while I think that abortion should be prevented if at all possible, I also feel that there has to be compassion for the woman who is feeling so desparate that she would risk or take her own life over this situation. We need to reach out to such women with options. I think adoption is a good one, but again...that's if she feels emotionally able to carry the baby to term. If she can't...then saving an already present human perhaps trumps a potential human.

You hear the uncertainty in my answer. This is because it is real. I work with children everyday. I welcome very young ones to the world and they are miracles of life and I love them all. I am pained to think of one being snuffed out before they can even see the sky or ocean or another face. But I also love the young women all around me who have seen a sky and bodies of water and many faces and who desparately want to survive after an event they did not seek nor have the power to stop. They are sacred beings who deserve to be protected as well. It's just a question I cannot answer.

well first off it is in no way a safe procedures. there are many woman you die from this, espically the new drug ru486. (are you for death, a miltary meaning of 86) so both types (legal and illegal) are horrific procedures . a here is an article on that. a man who used to do both illegal and legal abortion said the death rate is about the same.

also there is a myriad of side effects from abortion, there is a Canadian study that says that one in five woman will have a long depression from the abortion.

and last do the same things that was done before legal abortions. teach all children in the class room the outcomes of sex. ask girls to come in who had to pass on college to bring up there babies and the hard life they are living . hopefully when girls can put a face to the outcome they will look harder at sex. tell woman about the beauty of adoption.
lastly there are probably as many woman who commit suicide because of pregnancy now as before legal abortions . some people are going to do what is on there mind no matter if it hurts them or another life any way.

I am against abortion. I think that it is murder. I believe in a God, and I believe that he considers it murder also. The bible says God knows you even before you are in your mother's womb. I have no answer for the thousands of women who get pregnant and don't want the baby, regardless if it was by rape, or pure carelessness. I do think that it is sad that they would kill themselves trying to abort a baby. I guess This is just one of these debates that will not be settled until Jesus' return. I do how ever have a solution for all the women who use abortion as means of a birth control, and that is to take them and have their female reproductive organs removed. I think that it is very cruel of women to do this. My heart does go out to all other women who have been raped or other certain conditions. I have had several friends in their younger days to abort, and now to this day they are still beating themselves up over it. One friend never got pregnant again, because she says that she doesn't feel Worthy to be a mother. She is so good with kids. All I know is, that it is a terrible situation, and my heart goes out to all.

If I were evil and against abortion this would be my plain. First, you put chemicals in the water to prevent pregnancy in the first place. Second before you get the antidote for the chemicals you have to prove that you are fit to be a parent (after all you have to pass a test to drive a car or pass a background check to own a gun, why not do the same forsomething that can really mess a person up), third anyone that does manage to get pregnant without permission shall be imprisioned and monitored until they give birth.

I am against abortion.

And to answer your question..you could encourage women to carry them by telling them that they are taking life away from someone innocent, and that there are many people that would love to have a baby..she could put the child up for adoption..or give them to someone that she knows would love em'...there are several ways to encourage women to carry to term..it's just that no one cares to do it..some women think that it's just their way out.."who cares if I get pregnant by being a, well, the Bible calls it a whore...I'll just abort and get on with my life"..what a horrible way to live.

this is a good question, and i'm not surprised you only have couple answers. people really need to think things through before making laws to ban abortion. there are pro's and con's to every situation. i am pro choice and a lot of religious people don't know what that really means. its sad.
