I had this problem w/a coupla' Dobie females years ago. It was sooo bad, they never got over it. We were showing our dogs professionally, owning champions (son of Rancho Dobe "Storm") So we wre very informed & responsibe). Yes the hose is best, not a spray bottle but the hose. These days there is so much more information on training & techniques you should really try (start with the Dog Whisperer) it can be done. In the end, our older female (who caused most of the probs) passed away & peace returned but to this day there are chewed windowsills & such from those two just getting a glimps of each other through a window. It was a real circus navigating them around the property so they would not encounter (we had other Dobies too) P.S. Why have you lost so many other dogs?

You should see if you can find copies of 'It's me or the dog' the tv series on Channel 4, had loads of tips on dog behaviour. Don't know whether copies are available on any of the file swapping sites.

The woman on it - may have a book, so try the channel 4 website and search from there

If they are big dogs (labs german shepards, dobermans, huskys) you can hit them hard on the muzzle, close to about as hard as you would if they got in a fight, another segjustion is give them each their own toys, exact same type, (if one has a tenis ball give the other, one as well, give them both rawhide bones), another segjustion is to spray them with water if they start fighting,

Put the food dishes far apart from each other. If they start fighting spray them with the hose.

Or tie them up and feed them.

When they eat put them in seperat rooms. Have their play time in seperate rooms. Thats all I really know. Sorry. Maybe you could ask an expert at Pets Mart of something.

you are going to have to let them fight until they are comfortable with eachother. i will bet one dog is defending his turf and he feels threatened. dog fights are a transitional response to having a new dog around.
