Yes...People have overlooked two simple but deleterious factors: 1,3,7 trimethylxanthine and allergy. Simply put: caffeine allergy. It is medical knowledge that the longer a person is exposed to a drug, the higher the chances are for developing a tolerance, and an allergy to the substance. Once this happens, caffeine allergic persons can't properly metabolize caffeine, which is rapidly absorbed by all organs, and distributed into intracellular compartments, and extracellular water.

YES YOU CAN BE ALLERGIC TO CAFFEINE!!

Some people have asked if people can be allergic to caffeine. I’m no doctor, but yes. Yes, you can be allergic to caffeine. And it’s not something a lot of doctors have known to look for. The effects of caffeine allergy look like some more severe mental disorders.

When you’re suffering from an allergic reaction to caffeine, one or more of the following things can happen: “loss of focus, intellectual deterioration, delusions, loss of judgement, and other symptoms of poisoning.” Because many people don’t properly recognize the caffeine allergy, they continue to ingest it (and why wouldn’t they?), and that can damage the brain and make things worse.

With symptoms like loss of focus and delusions and symptoms of poisoning, it’s no wonder the reaction often goes improperly diagnosed. What is diagnosed? “ADHD, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, OCD, TMJD, PMS, and other conditions.”

If your doctor diagnoses you with any of the above, and you ingest a lot of caffeine, make sure he rules that out as a cause before putting you on a lot of drugs.

I've never heard of being allergic to it, but adverse reactions are entirely possible. Some people are VERY sensitive to caffeine. I'm quite a bit sensitive to it--if I have any caffeine on an empty stomach I'll get sick, stuff like that.

No, once you understand the body's allergic response, you realize it can only be TRULY allergic to proteins, of which caffeine is not. Now, someone may be caffeine-sensitive, and feel heart palpitations or get headaches, but it's not a true ALLERGY.

I have never heard of someone being allergic to caffeine. I have heard of caffeine withdrawal, though. I've had the experience.

Yes actually! I don't really know anyone personally who is alergic to caffeine but I do know that you can be! I even seen on the maury show a couple of years ago about a girl allergic to water! Could you imagine your life without water?! I couldn't!!

never heard of being allergic to it... I myself have heart problems so caffeine effects me in a very negative way, but I wouldn't call that an allergy

As a matter of fact I am allergic to caffeine. I was diagnosed twelve years ago, when I was in first grade. It sucks.

I still don't know, but drinking coke or coffee "appears" to cause me allergies. If I stay off caffeine for a while, they seem to go away. I'll have to ask a specialist. I'm thinking that caffeine affects your immune system.
