I am a 27 year old hygienist with beautiful hygiene friends. I have noticed this to be true also. I believe this is because we are detailed and care about appearance.

My dentist is a woman. I've been with her for about 15 years, and obviously I think she's great, or I would not keep going to her. She's in her mid-40's but still cute (a redhead -- OHHH), but that really does not make any difference, because my eyes are closed most of the time.

She works in a large group practice, and they hire hygienists all the time. Some of them, maybe 1/4, are male. Most of the female hygienists are not "pretty and young an sexy." However, since that's an entry-level job, I am not surprised that most of them are young.

FYI they are not called "oral hygienist". They are called RDH s Registered Dental Hygienist. They work independently or alongside the dentist. Many of the programs are highly competitive to get accepted in to become an RDH and there are programs ranging from associate to Masters programs. In some states RDH with proper training work independently and do simple extractions and fillings. Dentistry was a once male dominated field however most schools accept on a 50/50 basis or some are now accepting more women.

It's not always the case, no. But in the majority of cases, dental hygienists are women -- often young, often cute.

My guess is that more women matching this description are hired for these jobs because folks are so nervous in the dental office. No one likes to have their teeth and gums poked and prodded. Beauty produces a positive response.

Good point that! Now I think about it, I've only ever come across one female dentists and never a male hygienist, and yes, the hygienists I have seen have been rather ewasy on the eye. Hmmmm, you might be on to something here!

I have to add here that my dentist is a young male hottie!

It's kind of like a nursing position, so a lot more women tend to do it. Plus dentistry is a male-dominated field and dental hygiene is a lot easier degree to get.
My roomate is studying to be a dentist and he read somewhere that dentists are the most likely professionals to cheat on their wives because they work in close proximity with hot, young, female dental hygenists all the time ...

I'm pretty sure that because she's a dental hygienist, she is conscious of all the germs. It's true that the mouth has the most germs in the human body, so she just wants to be careful.

I don't know about that, I've seen some that aren't that good looking, pretty much the opposite of what you said. I have a female dentist and alot of the time she rests her boobs on me when shes leaning over in my mouth cleaning.
