We don't have Copperheads out here,, so I would be reluctant to say with that particular snake. We do have Rattlesnakes, and yes they can be a problem with dogs. The saving grace with Rattlesnakes is that they will not inject a full load of venom on a "defencive" strike saving their venom for a "pray" strick so that they wont go hungry.
For this reason dogs normally survive a Rattlesnake bite with medication (steriods)
They just look like a Chineese Sharpei for a few days.
Most parts of the country do put on "snake clinics" inorder to "snake proof" hunting dogs, you might look into that

Normally, a dog will die from a copperhead bite, but not a rattlesnake bite. However, they need to see a Vet immediately. It's a possibility with the copperhead, that an anti venon, if given within a few minutes could save a full grown dog, but not a puppy. A full grown dog, when struck by a rattler, if he doesn't die, his head will swell at least double the normal size. If this happens, get help immediately, and make sure you can identify the snake to the Vet.

My lab puppy got bitten on the front leg by a copperhead, I called the vet and he told me that all I needed to do was give him a spoonful of children's benadryl every 4 hours and to give him a tylenol. Also give him plenty of water and food. My miniature dauschund got bite on the nose and I did the same thing for her and she was fine. So I wouldn't take them to the vet.

Vet, NOW!!
The smaller the dog, the more dangerous the venom is. It is true that snake venom isn't as deadly to dogs as it is to humans, they still need medical attention.
