By the California State Highway Manual Guidelines, the inside lane (or fast lane) should be used as a passing lane ONLY. It is illegal to just cruise along in the inside lane! Also, what is the speed limit on the freeway? No, it is not 65mph, it is the speed of THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC! (check your California State Driving Manual)This is the safest speed. If the flow of traffic is 35mph then go 35mph, if the flow of traffic is 70mph then go 70mph. You will NOT get a ticket if you're safely driving with the flow of traffic. So please don't sit in the fast lane going 65 if you are not passing someone or think you are making a statement about the speed limit, or just not paying attention. Because you are just making things more UNSAFE for everyone on the freeway.

I'm gonna have fun with this one!!!! First off, "Paul", you are ridiculous!! Most current speed limits are ridiculous. States are beginning to raise them because most highways are made to go much faster than most posted speed limits say you can go. Of course we can't raise them too high because most people drive like s**t and will kill themselves more often. As far as passing lanes, I have witnessed them being blocked up for well over 1/2 mile by people NOT PASSING. The ONLY reason for this is because they are completely inconsiderate a**holes! I am all for safety on the roadways, look at my past posts. However, there is no reason why you can't easily do 80mph in a well maintained Class-C vehicle, or a motorcycle, on a highway built for doing so, and if you are paying attention to driving (which means paying attention to conditions and knowing your limits). It's a shame that legislation (which won't accomplish much) needs to be passed to tell people not to be this stupid, but if that's what it takes and SOME of these people are punished, then at least it'll be something to help.

Excessive Speed and Designated Lane Use

22348. (a) Notwithstanding subdivision (b) of Section 22351, a person shall not drive a vehicle upon a highway with a speed limit established pursuant to Section 22349 or 22356 at a speed greater than that speed limit.

You are WRONG, wrong AND wrong. The CVC states "NO vehicle shall travel faster than the maximum posted speed limit".

Go to the DMV web site and check for yourself.

ANYONE can travel in the #1 (inside) lane at 65 all day long and be perfectly LEGAL.

You are obviously one of those who want EVERYONE out of your way so you can go 85 or 95! SLOW DOWN and save gas!

I've never heard of that and where I live everyone uses the "fast" lane as the fast lane and not just a passing lane. The police even use it to cruise in and I've never seen anyone getting pulled over for driving fast in that lane.
