how do i discourage racoons from visiting at night?

dogs? they will attack a dog and they are vicious little s.o.b.s
they are too smart for traps generally
if you can put a radio in the attic, [and leave it off-station so you just get 'white noise', they hate that], or where ever they are coming in, the noise should discourage them.

just make sure you leave NOTHING outside to attract them.
worse case scenario - put poison bait out for them or buy an air rifle and take care of them that way....just make sure your bylaws allow you to do so.

Why? Racoons are beautiful animals! I leave them food [cat or dog] at night and I see sometimes a whole family ,babies too come from the trees to eat, look we are destroying their habitat so is only logical that we leave them food! If you dont bother them ,neither will they bother you!

Ask them to make an appointment between 9 and 5, like everybody else. Don't put any food in the trash, if you absolutely have to, spray bleach on your garbage can and the surrounding area, they are sensitive to smell and won't like the odor.

Make sure there is nothing edible about...Lid on trashcan secured strongly enough that they can't get at it, or trashcan locked up inside some building for it. Coons go where there is food, or the smell of food.

You have to sprinkle human hair around the area. Leave it there for a few days. Me personally, i use pubes. They have a really strong scent.
