it is recommended that they get them ATLEAST 2 weeks before bording...if your dog boards frequently more than 3x a year, then get it every 6 months, if it is just for puppy classes or an occasional kennel trip then every year.
Also if it is a nasal vaccine, allot of vets recommend a Booster a few weeks after the first one. I haven't heard of a booster after an injected vaccine...but that just may be the vets I work with, every vet is different. and the vaccine booster will not "hurt" any if boosted...

RE:
How often does a dog need a bordetella shot?
I have heard every 6 months and also every year. And how much ahead of the boarding does this shot need to be given?

About 2 weeks before boarding, but call the facility, they have their own regulations. Most vet's offices will do the shot the day you drop them off for boarding.
If you are not taking your dog to parks or to be around other dogs, don't worry about it. Bordetella (kennel cough) is sort of like a cold or a flu in humans, dogs only get it from other dogs.
He should only need a booster shot every year, but every vet and vaccine manufacturer is different so what your vet says goes. Ask the vet if they have the yearly one, if not, consider changing vets.

It is usually not a 'shot', but given as a nasal spray, once a year with other vaccines. It is reccomended getting it at least 2 weeks before being boarded for it to be fully effective.
Many dogs have a slight reaction to this vaccine, especially the first time. They get what seems like a mild case of a cold/cough. If so, you can give them some Robitussin.

Bordetella usually comes in a 7in1 shot set or a 4in1 shot set. and I think that it can be given that week before you board and you will be fine. Once a year is fine.

At my clinic we give this vaccine once a year, but if your dog will be in a kennel situation frequently (boarding, groomer, or at a dog park) you should give it every 6 months. Vaccinating about a week before the date he will be boarding should be plenty of time.

Is it not in the yearly booster shot? Some of these shots are good for 3 year.
