I was wondering.. in spanish, how do you make things plural? I know you just don't add an "s" but I know you change the "el" and "la" but what do you change it to? And what about if it ends in a 'z'? I have some little words-- if you could make them plural and show me how you do it, it would be greatly apperciated!!!

Spanish Singular Words-
( By the way I made these just random easy ones for example )

la silla-
el lapiz-

Thanks!!!!

you would use "las" when refering to a femenine thing in plurar:

Las sillas - The chairs
Las casas- The houses
Las ventanas - The windows

And "Los" when referring to a masculine subject:

Los carros - the cars
Los lapices-the pencils
Los cepillos-the brushes

you still use the "s" at the end of the word but be careful with fem & masculine.

In general there are two rules for the formation of the plural of nouns and adjectives:

1) Words ending in a consonant add -es.
- amor - amores.

2) Words ending in a vowel add -s:
- casa - casas.

But this has four exceptions:

1) Z changes to CES:
lápiz -lápices.

2) Words ending in S, and not stressed in the final syllable do not change:
lunes - lunes.

3) Words ending in a stressed vowel, sometimes add S, and sometimes ES:
- maní - maníes.
- mamá - mamás.

4) Some words change the place of the accent in the plural:
- carácter - caracteres (stress on -TE-)
