I had a "friend" who for the past 4 weeks has told me she would install the operating system on my computer and just never seems to get around to it. I have been paying for internet I can't use and it is really make me mad. So, I am trying to find the cheapest way to install the operating system on my computer. Any suggestions?

hi there...

let me let you in on a little secret... you dont *have* to buy windows... you dont have to buy any OS at all... why would you when you can get ubuntu for free!.. and... they'll send it to you for free too!!! ubuntu is a breeze to install... no hassles whatsoever... it comes fully equiped with software to do almost anything you want...

one thing however, since ubuntu is a free OS (as in free speech) it doesnt have some things you might be used to by default... eg multimedia codecs and web browser plugins... (even in windows you will have to install these...) but no worries automatix solves all of that in a jiffy...

try ubuntu... i'll never regret i did!

Ok, If you are going to spend the money on Windows 98, you should just go ahead and pay for XP. Microsoft will not help anyone useing Windows 98 or lower anymore. Of course they want you to up grade, so they get paid.. I am just saying you should go ahead with XP so theres no waste in your money, incase you ever need help with Windows 98.
Also You should make sure that your computer can run on XP. Make sure it has enough memory. LOL I had to upgrade my memory to put XP on my computer.
Just tryin to help

I second the suggestion of installing Ubuntu Linux. They will even ship free CDs to you. It shouldn't be any more traumatic to install than Windows would be, then you have a legal OS without paying anything.

I strongly disagree with the suggestion of going to a warez site. Besides being illegal to use what you download, it's almost guaranteed to be full of virus/trojan/other malware.
