Thinking about moving to Anchorage, AK for a GIS Techncian position. I would have to ditch my car and by a FWD. I currently live in So. Cal, but am not real happy here. I'm more of a tree hugger and a nature freak. But can I handle the cold and can I afford it? FYI, I'm feamle, in my mid 40's and single.

If I only knew what a GIS Technician was, I might be able to help more. But check out the State of Alaska's Wage Rates page -

It's a little outdated (2005) but it might give you something to go on.

If you're looking to live in Anchorage, check out these sites:

Municipality of Anchorage -

About Anchorage -

And it doesn't get too cold in Anchorage...not like the Interior of Alaska, or up North.

And if you move up there...please go to Orso's Restaurant for me. :-)
