I am not a catholic, if one would like categorize but please bear in mind that you are only giving them this 'title'. You are not acknowledging them as your earthly or Heavenly father. If you are comfortable with that thought, fine, but if not then you may call your priest, "sir", "minister", "man of God" or something else out of respect.
Hope this helped.

I believe so, because these priests set themselves up as God, that they alone can forgive sin. I was schooled in a Catholic- School, born in a Christian home. I got a lot of licks for not bowing before the Priest and calling him father. I was taught at home that we have one Heavenly Father and that is God. The other earthly father was at home.

Let's not get too technical, shall we? You call your biological father your father, don't you? The name father doesn't mean that he's God, it's just a title.
If you called the Priest 'God' that would be very incorrect.

In Matthew 23, Jesus said to call no man on earth your father, as you only have one Father who is in heaven.

If that was a sin, it would be wrong to even call your biological father "father". However, I disagree with calling a pastor or priest "father" anyway. It doesn't feel right, and they are a pastor, advisor, and teacher more than anything.

I would think that it would be more of a sin if you were to refer to your priest as God or Lord. If your logic stood true, then wouldn't we all be in trouble every time we addressed our male parent, or even better, grand-parent.
