Serious, I can give her food and even her favorite treat, and when I get home from work, she'll greet me at the door for a few minutes, then go eat her treat or the food in her bowl. I'm trying to figure out the reasoning behind this. Or why she does it. I don't view this behavior as bad, I'm just curious as to why?

My crazy pooches do this as well. My sister, who is a vet tech, told me it is a anxiety & comfort issue. The dogs feel comfortable & at ease when you are home.
Also, once they get older, they get into there own eating schedules. I leave food and fresh water out all day for my dogs, but the will usually only eat at about 8 a.m. and 530 p.m., with a treat given by me some where in between.
Just like people, it varies per dog.
Don't worry there is nothing wrong with your pup. As long as it is eating (at some point) & healthy then you have no worries.

Dogs are by nature pack animals. If your dog sees you as the alpha...and he should..he may not want to eay until he knows it is ok. My oldest corgi will not eat until I tell him to...this was not a taught behavior but a natural. My female always eats first..the boys won't start until she does. This is typical behavior in packs in the wild, so it seems to me to be pretty logical that our dogs would do it as well.

My dog does this as well. Dogs are social eaters. As puppies they eat socially with their puppy siblings, and some continue this behavior into adulthood. They need their group and feel most comfortable in their "pack" Eating is usually a happy occasion for them and its best shared with members of their pack family....YOU

I don't know why either - one of my dogs doesn't seem to eat either unless I'm home. The only thing I've come up with is that he's most content and happy when I'm here, so that's when he eats - when he's most at peace with his life.

pets get seperation anxiety. You might want to take her to a vet and get her or her some meds. That will help her nerves. My friends dog would do that and chew on his paws. If the vet costs to much you might want to look into the mobile vets. They are always cheaper.

yeah, sounds like seperation anxiety. my dog used to do this. we stared giving her dog cookies everytime we left the house, that way she was excited that we were leaving and it did the trick for us. she doesn't have any anxiety issues anymore (i'm not saying it was all becuase of the cookies, i think she grew out of it a bit as well) but now it's just our ritual... as soon as i grab my purse she runs as fast as she can to her "cookie spot."

It's probably 'cause she wants to know that she is "being a good dog" and wants you to watch her eat,

My terrier does this too, he won't touch a treat when I'm gone. I think it's because he's moping while I'm gone.

Because dogs, unlike cats, are very needy animals...
