We know the cable operators and dish providers offer HD to subscribers. And we know that people are buying TVs that are HD capable. But how many people are actually subscribed to HD programming?

I have a Mitsubishi 70 in HD TV. I've had it for about 5 years now and the quality of regular programing (on cable) is just as good as the HD. I think that the question should be 'who has good resolution from their current TV'. People with older TVs cry out for HD service and it wont do them any good. You need a good TV for good reception.
HD is nice if the show is in the Smithsonian.
