You want to use the shot with the best odds. Plus you need to practise it. The best shot is the bump and run. You can learn to use several different clubs. The shot will not work in every case but use it when you can. All you doing is using your putting stroke with a club. The ball stays low and roll towards the hole.
Here is some more info
information on how to hit a do-it-all shot around the greens that will lower your scores.

important idea in chipping is to swing the clubhead at a descending angle, with the clubhead behind the hands.

i am a 8 handicap and i am very good around the greens if you want to get the ball in the air open the face of the club a little and keep your head down and that will help get the ball up in the air.

the number one problem with chipping is decelerating on the way through the ball or chopping at the ball - bring the club back and accelerate through the ball - avoid turning your right hand over, try to hold off your finish to keep the club face square and pointing to the sky - you MUST follow through to get the ball in the air

We have a video tip on the Digital Golf website that can help you. It is called "Chip Like You Putt", in the short game section of Instruction.
Basically, make the exact same stroke for both putting and chipping. Keep it natural...most folks overthink everything.
The link to the video is below. Try it and see!

You are probably trying to scoop the ball and end up blading it. No Problemo! Hit down to make the ball go up. Move the ball back of middle in your stance and hit the equator of the ball with a descending blow it will get airborne.

Try placing the impact of your club exactly where it needs to be in order to get the desired results. As Joe sureman used to say -"strike the ball like you are striking a ball". However, do not hit it improperly, or the ball will not "trajectorize" toward the "that-a-boy" area of hitness.

ur problem is not a defect in u.
it is a gift.......watch beckham.
so,don't panic.
listen, believe me,it depends on ur swing and positioning, don't ever think the more power u try to shoot the more higher it will get.
it depends on focusing and relaxation
think of it before u play it,move ur feet across the air, imagine.
