Recovery is a very individual process. Often people think that to recover from a mental illness means being completely symptom free. This is not the case. For many people that suffer from mental health problems it isn't realsitc for them to be completely sympom free, but what is realistic is reducing the amount of disturbing or distressing experiences they have so they can lead a better quality of life. Each person has a unique view of recovery. The important thing is to set realistic aims to acheive. There is a lot of literature on the Recovery Process (I've got a Masters degree in Recovery and mental health). Do an intenet search and you're bound to find something. I've been reading a good book recently called "Recovery from Schizophrenia - Psychiatry and Political Economy" by Richard Warner. That's very good in terms of schizophrenia. I am sure there will be other books relevant to recovery and other illness' (such as bi-polar disorder, personality disorder and depression).

Hope this brief explination has helped a bit.

Sounds like an essay to me!! Look it up on Yahoo Scholer or a similar site. Am a mental health nurse myself, depends what area you're on about. I work with clients with dementia so there isn't much recovery there. You'll be writing forever if you cover the whole field of psychiatry!!

Very simple friend, once you get broken, you are never the same again and all the pills and all the 'after care' is just a sop to try and stop you going crazy and then it will cost serious money to society
