Jesus taught people to judge not lest ye be judged, yet my religion is judged all of the time by Christians trying to convert me. I could understand trying to share their beliefs in a kind manner, but I have had my Buddhist beliefs insulted by many. My question is, if someone tries to degrade my beliefs in order to elevate theirs, can they truely call themself a follower of Jesus Christ, who taught compassion and understaning?

Yes I agree completely. If Witch Burning was still legal, Many Christians on here would burn them gleefully.

Not real clear on how you feel you are being judged.
Christians do not judge, but we are supposed to tell the truth. If that feels as if judgement is or has been passed on you, then maybe the person (being human after all) couldnt present the gospel of Jesus Christ to you without somehow giving you that feeling.
My advice is to read the bible, not trying to convert you here, just that knowledge is power, and if you know about and understand what Christians believe, you will have a base of knowledge from which to draw when you are feeling judged by someone.
I truely believe in knowing about and understanding other religious beliefs and ways of worship.
And yes, Jesus taught compassion and understanding, but he also taught that the only way to the father was through the son. Leaving only one narrow pathway to get there.

The judgement of whether someone is a christian or not, is really left up to God. When we die he will either recognize us as his child or he won't. That is the final judgement I can't say one way or the other if someone else is a christian or not. But to be Christian is to be Christ like. We are supposed to try to live like Christ would everyday. I'm sorry that you have had a bad experience with Christians berating you or insulting your religion. Some Christians think that that is the best way to get through to people. Most forget about the Love part.

Well, lets get judging under control here. Judging someone as to look down on them is wrong. In your case, this may be what is happening and that is wrong. But judging people has its place in the Bible. The Bible clearly states that if a brother is acting badly or in an unjust manner, you should go to him and confront that problem. If he resist, bring a friend and confront him again. If he resist again, bring him in front of the church. If he resist again, then cast him out. So judging is apart of the Bible and advocated by Jesus.
I think they might be going about this all wrong. Christians should not slight or look down thier nose at you. This is the wrong type of judgment. They should love you and bring you along with kindness.

A lot of things depends on the content of the converstion. For example, if you're talking about things in a playful manner then you can't take it seriously.
But as a direct hit, you have to look at whether they are speaking truth or not. Then walk your way how your spirit feels right.
Some times people don't realize when they are doing something bad; that is not a sin. However, they are responsible to take care to not to do it.

When Paul was speaking to the Athenians, he treated them and their gods with respect. He used their belief system as a bridge to offer what he beleived. By his example, respect is always part of sharing one's faith.
To answer your question, I think one can be a true follower of Christ and be immature and undeveloped in their faith. Thus it is possible that someone would treat you in the wrong way. Hopefully, these immature people will continue to learn and follow Christ and get past their animosity. If they never let go of their anger, it might be worth questioning the authenticity of their faith.

Evangelism has long been a part of Christianity. Some people go about it right, and some people are just annoying and insulting.
I apologize for the annoying and insulting Christians who don't know how to evangelize.

Yes, true christians will try to show you the right path, but they should not judge you. They can tell you that according to their beliefs, you are damned, but if they make fun of you or insult you all the time about your religion, that is not christian at all.

No. In fairness to the concept of Christianity, the basic belief system as espoused by JC is great, but I have yet to meet a single Christian that emulates Christ in any way.
Peace.

I agree with the point that you are making. I am a Pagan, when people ask me my religion there response is generally negative. Most think that means that I worship Satan, while others are completely ignorant.
