Therapy will only help if you want it to help and if you have a therapist that knows what they are doing. If you resist therapy, it will take longer or not work at all. As ridiculous as some of the requests sound, you should try to work with the therapist if you want help.

Studies show that the average client receiving therapy is better off than 79% of those similar who do not receive therapy. So it doesn't work for everyone, but a good percentage it does. In your particuliar case, it could be that the therapist you are seeing isn't using techniques or theories that work for you. I would encourage you to seek out another mental health professional. It can take a while to find someone who really gets you. Don't give up after just one therapist though.

i went to therepy for being abused as a kid,and for bneing sexual abuse, and for being abused as an adult (second hubby was an ******) and it didn't help. all the therepy did to me as an adult, was make me fearful/hateful of men. It is a wonder I didn't become gay as the result of all the " therepy". no one knows you better than YOU. Not your mom/dad/spouse/bro's/ sisters, NO one! I was told by one therepist, that the only one who could help me,was me,and God,if I so believed. If you arent getting the help u need, then you are wasting their time as well as your own. And then, someone who could use/need, the therepy, wouldn't be getting it. just a thought...I am straight, but the therepist i was seeing, was a man- basher, and thought that all men were woman-beaters. That is not the case. It can be dangerous for someone to go to therepy, because some of the therepists are out to make a buck and not help ppl,and spread their own morbid/twisted views. If you aren't getting anything out of it,i would not go,as for you and the therepist,it is a waste of time.

Therapy only helps if the client trusts the therapist and knows that the therapist is empathizing with him/her. Otherwise, you need a new therapist.
