is it ok to delete software that contains a virus or should it be cleared using anti-virus software?

Always best to delete and put in a known good file to replace.
While most anti-virus do a good job of cleaning files, sometimes the files become corrupted after cleanin.

Delete the program and do a virus scan afterwards.
