Hitchcock used ketchup and Chocolate sauces in his b/w's.
Here's the recipe for fake blood used in the Evil Dead, taken from Bruce Campbell's book "If Chins could Kill: Confessions of a B-Movie Actor."
Ingredients:
6 pints Karo syrup
3 pints red food coloring
1 pint non-dairy creamer
1 drop blue food coloring
Equipment:
Large ceramic bowl
Merdium suzed bowl
Spoon
Cleaning products
1. The Kayro Syrup is your foundation, the base of your blood. Pour syrup into the large ceramic bowl.
2. In the medium bowl, stir the non-dairy creamer until it turns into a nice paste. This will provide opacity.
3. Gradually fold the non-dairy paste into the syrup.
4. Stir in the red food coloring. Ad drop of blue food coloring for density.
5. Test on white surface.
6. Coat aspiring actor from top down.
7. To remove, place actor into hot shower, fully clothed, and let sit for 30 minutes or until clean.
This recipe serves two coats two actors in gore.

i do not understand in case you have ever heard of the "Asprin theory", yet curiously earlier a tournament, a superstar (i love the time period Wrestler a lot more beneficial positive) takes an Asprin, which permits skinny the blood out. Then they take small, yet sharp razer blades for the period of their face, which makes it a lot less complicated to bust open. With the floor weak, and the blood skinny, it ought to take even the smallest hit to make it appear as if the biggest damage. So, in case you question me, i trust this theory, and trust that one and each and every of the blood we see everywhere in specialist wrestling is authentic. thanks for a even as.

food colouring and custard powder.
when mixed this gives a great congealing texture to your 'blood'.
also it tastes nice so you could walk around licking the blood off your wounds.
i used to help a friend who did casualty simulation, and we used to gross out people by licking wounds that way ... lol
:-)
